| MAY DAY
|
|
The first day of May
is traditionally the first day of summer in England.
It is
the day that 'jack-in-the-green' arises at dawn and the day for dancing
around the maypole. In East Anglia it is the time for making
garlands of flowers and in Padstow time for the ancient
'obby oss' rituals.[see links below].
Most english morris teams celebrate by 'dancing out' on the
1st of May many of them meeting at dawn to 'dance in the May'.
