Meet the Band
Milton have a small group of musicians who play at practices and public dance displays. We also occasionally play as a group for ceilidh or barn dance evenings. We are always keen to encourage new musicians to join us. Whether you are experienced or a beginner, play by ear or read music come along to practice and give it a try.

As you can see from the example tune above, 'Bob & Joan', the tunes we play are fairly simple and we will help you if necessary. The only restriction is that your instrument must be portable. The skill when playing for Cotswold dancing is to keep the speed slow enough to allow the dancers to do the stepping correctly. There is plenty of opportunity to up the tempo in the pub afterwards.
Morris Music Publications
  • Milton use the famous 'Black Book' as a reference for both dancers and musicians. Namely the Handbook of Morris Dances by Lionel Bacon This is available from: The Morris Ring Shop

  • Very useful also are the 'Mally' morris music books which can be bought with a cassette of the tunes. There are three books: Cotswold 1 & 2, plus Northwest. Details can be found under DMP at Mally's Website
