Here I am, St. George, a worthy champion bold,
And with my sword and spear I've won three crowns of gold.
I've found the fiery dragon and brought him to the slaughter;
And with that I've won fair Sabra, the King of Egypt's daughter.

Saint George is the patron saint of England.
Milton Morris Men start their season by celebrating St. George's Day.
It is thought that the story of St. George was first brought to England by returning crusaders.
Legend has it that in the third century AD, the king of Silene's daughter was offered as a sacrifice to a dragon. St. George rode in on his white charger, slew the dragon and thus rescued the fair maiden.

St. George lives on in England as a character in the mummers plays still performed in many towns and villages throughout the year.
